I’m Rachel, a sophomore at Purdue University. Boiler Up! and Hail Purdue!
I’ve lived my whole life on a farm in the great basketball state, Indiana. While there is a lot of basketball there is little to no hockey; both are sports that I enjoy. You can blame my love for hockey on my dad. My grandpa was from Michigan so my dad and his brothers played hockey growing up.
Besides basketball and hockey I also enjoy volleyball, tennis, baseball, and football.
I typically appreciate collegiate and professional athletics equally, except for basketball (like I said I’m from Indiana. The NBA is not real basketball, at least I don’t think it is). My collegiate allegiances: Purdue University and the University of North Dakota. I was born into a Purdue household; my mom is an alum and my dad took ag short courses at Purdue. I dislike Indiana University above all others. You probably wouldn’t have guessed that I like the University of North Dakota… I was swayed by funny hockey players in YouTube videos. There are miscellaneous other colleges that I root for but not all the time or as ardently as I do for Purdue. In fact I mostly just root for UND’s hockey team.
As far as professional allegiances go I prefer to support my ‘local’ teams: Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, Indiana Pacers, and Indianapolis Colts. I dislike many professional teams. It’s hard to keep track of them all.
There are other professional teams that I like but they aren’t ‘my team’. In most cases I like a few of the athletes on the team so I root for them.
I cover a bit of everything here, mostly things that I like; Purdue, Detroit and Indy athletics, hockey, and flow… It’s a work in progress. If you’re curious about the name for this blog the inspiration was this. Lastly, if you like what you’ve read so far and are a Purdue fan, I have pretty sweet gig with Hammer and Rails and you can find some of my stuff over there every so often.
